Dirty vehicle on pickup, smelled of smoke/pot, Charged $450/afterwards for “Excessive Interior Dirt”!!
My review for avis.com The vehicle was dirty when we picked it up (inside windshield/side mirrors had so much dirt & water spots as soon as we pulled out of the parking garage we couldn't see through the windshield! No way to return to the parking garage so we stopped and got a microfiber towel to clean the inside). B

Company desperate for money
My review for avis.com Avis claimed horse show footing on the driver’s side floor mat caused excessive damage. They tried charging an absurd amount, $500, to clean one floor mat on an American vehicle. How embarrassing for Avis, they can’t clean one floor mat, or replace it if it’s that soiled, without charging customers an abhorrent amount. They must be desperate for money at the Palm Springs airport location. Rent a vehicle elsewhere. Déplorable. D

My review for avis.com Arrived in Iceland excited to get our land drover. However on arrival at the reception desk they said that they didn’t have the car we were promised. They then proceeded to explain how a Toyota rav4 is the same category as a land drover discovery. We originally chose Avis at a higher price than our other providers on the understanding Avis always provide the car advertised. Totally ruined our holiday. G

“Avis Tries Harder”- to screw you!
My review for avis.com In October I scheduled a car rental with Avis for a February trip. Assuming the prepay would guarantee the best price, I opted to prepay the cost. A few weeks prior to the trip I checked out some other options and found that a competitor offered the same car for $100 less. Strike One. When I assessed cancelling the Avis vehicle, I learned that there was $50 cancellation fee! Srike Two. I reached out to customer service to see if I could get some consideration; either a lower fee or waiving the cancellation fee. No response. Srike three. Cancelled the reservation and sucked up the $50 loss. I'd rather that than deal with this awful company for one second longer. J

WOW They just keep on getting worse… Avoid AVIS Las Vagas Airport
My review for avis.com WOW They just keep on getting worse argh. So this was my first complaint .... CAUTION - watch out for the fuel scam at this location. Take lots of photos. They give you no paperwork going out that lists any existing faults , damage or fuel level. In my case the vahicle had existing damage to a door panel ( not disclosed to me ) as well as having undercarage noise and was about 3/4s full of gas ( I took a photo of the dashboard before leaving and mentioned to person on the exit gate) . Upon returning I ensured that the car was filled to the exact same level at the petrol station around the corner from the facility. I checked in , the lady doing the checking said everything was fine with the car and no additional charges. Again no paperwork received or emailed at teh end of the rental. Checked my bank statement to find a $23.50 charge from Avis on Feb 6th the day I returned it. When I went online , low and behold a fuel charge for not returning it full. Submitted a complaing to customer service , including the photos and they are still trying to claim it had more fuel leaving the facility then it did ( dispite my photographic evidence to the contrary) . Argh this type of scam just gets up my back and has left a very sour taste in my mouth about Avis overall. ... The result , they admitted they made a mistake and reversed the charge... LOL now I receive a letter today dated Feb 12th ( Funny enough the same date that they refunded the bogus fuel charge) that there was sand in the car and they are going to try and charge me $125 for cleaning .... WTAF .... Are you having a laugh! They are supposed to vacuum and clean the cars between rentals anyway....... Back to fighting AVIS again. .... NEVER EVER RENT FROM THIS LOCATION. I have never had so much trouble renting a car in 30 years as I have here. Total SCAM artists. G

My review for avis.com I prepaid for a reservation in Fort Lauderdale. When I arrived they gave me an electric vehicle with a 12mile range. That would not get me to the nearest charging station. I asked for a gas vehicle. I waited another 1hr and 11 min, I was out of time and decided to cancel the reservation and take a cab. they promised to refund the amount I prepaid..... never did. $300 paid to avis for absolutely nothing. They even denied my credit card claim M

However, it was upon my return home to the UK that Avis's exceptional service truly shone through. While reviewing the extras invoice, I noticed a puzzling charge labeled "Time and Distance." Alarmed, I reached out to Avis via email, seeking clarification. Disappointingly, I received no response, leaving me anxious about the unjust charge. Thankfully, through my travel agency, I discovered that Avis had erroneously billed me for two extra days due to a late delivery that never occurred. Despite the lack of communication from Avis, I was relieved to solve the issue through alternative means. While the experience initially caused concern and doubt, the reassuring support from my travel agency and the swift resolution of the matter restored my faith in Avis. Their commitment to customer satisfaction and willingness to rectify mistakes reflect a dedication to excellence that is truly commendable. My review for avis.com Despicable practices. I rented a car in Knoxville for 1 day with insurance. Your rental starts as soon you check in not when you depart the lot. They didn't have a suitable car so I left the rental place 1 hour late but was charged an extra day of rental and an extra day of insurance. Doubling my cost from $93 to $180. Repeated emails to customer service gleaned nothing at all even though the desk clerk lied to me and told me Avis had a 2 hour grace period on returns! T

My review for avis.com Avis rips off customers. I reserved a “standard sport” car about two weeks prior to arriving. Get to the office and the manager on duty tells me he hasn’t had any sport cars in months. He said the company “made us open that model for reservations but we don’t have any”. I said well I paid extra for a sport model. He said the only thing he could do is put me in an SUV. Which is the total opposite of what I reserved and pre-paid for. But whatever, I didn’t have all day to haggle because I had a business meeting. So I go out and climb into the SUV, crank it up and there is only 1/4 tank of gas! I go back into the office and request another vehicle. The stock is so low that everything is spoken for. So then I’m forced to put gas which cost me nearly $60 to fill the tank. And here is another way where Avis scams its customers….they charge you $9 per gallon refueling cost if you turn in a vehicle that doesn’t have full tank. But instead of fueling it themselves, as they should be, they keep that $9 per gallon as pure profit and pass the refueling cost on to the next renter. I rent an obscenely frequent number of times per year but will never rent from Avis again! P

My review for avis.com Waste of time contacting avis customer service. Rang them over a week ago with 2 complaints, on the phone for 40 minutes, and the service operator said they would pass my concerns to the correct department. After the 40 minutes he had the audacity to ask me if he could help with anything else???? I have now been waiting 10 or so days and no response from avis. I think the whole customer service department must be on holidays os sick. Pathetic. J

My review for avis.com Avis offers an automated toll paying service on its cars in the NE US, but hidden in the fine print is information that they will charge you $3.95 per day for the service even if you only use it on one day of your rental. So, my one day trip on the PA turnpike with $8.00 in tolls cost me $28.00 in Avis charges. This is an unethical way for Avis to take advantge of its customers. J
