Thanks to our dog's alert and her quick thinking, she swiftly evacuated our children and pets from the trailer, ultimately preventing a potential disaster. Upon returning home, I discovered the extent of the damage caused by the furnace fire. The burn chamber had been compromised, resulting in significant harm to the flooring, wiring, and pipes. Miraculously, the water lines had melted, inadvertently dousing the flames and halting further destruction. The aftermath of this ordeal was both emotional and financial. We incurred $8,000 in repair expenses, only to be met with disappointment when seeking reimbursement from Dometic and Jayco. Despite presenting thorough documentation of the damages and repair costs, both companies disclaimed any responsibility or assistance. Their lack of accountability and disregard for our well-being left me feeling disheartened and undervalued as a customer. The professional at the dealership checked the unit and found that, although the wires were indeed burnt, there was no debris in the chamber. The main issue appeared to be a malfunctioning motherboard, which was the cause of the problem. As we had a 2-year warranty with Dometic, we naturally filed a claim, confident that it would be addressed by the warranty. Unfortunately, our excitement turned to frustration when Dometic denied our claim, stating that the fire was due to a lack of maintenance. This left us feeling bewildered – did we really need to perform maintenance after such a short period of use? It was especially disheartening as the repair professional did not identify any issues with the wires, only the malfunctioning motherboard. To make matters worse, despite the burnt wires, no replacements were made, leaving us with the same potentially hazardous components. We were left with no choice but to pay $590 for the repair, which was quite a financial blow. This experience has made us question the reliability and support of Dometic's products and warranty. We are now considering replacing all Dometic products in our RV when they eventually fail. Appalling RV cassette toilet design
I recently purchased a new motorhome in 2020, and to my dismay, the Dometic cassette toilet that came with it has been nothing short of a disappointment. The first issue I encountered was a leak in the cassette, causing an unfortunate spillage during trips to the dump station. Additionally, the absence of a seal on the slider closure exacerbated the problem. Although the dealer arranged for a replacement, I found myself grappling with a new set of challenges. The replacement seal proved to be excessively tight, making it incredibly laborious to pull out the slider. Despite my attempts to use various lubricants, the issue persisted. To make matters worse, the cost of a replacement rubber seal amounted to a staggering £44. This exorbitant price tag left me feeling burdened by unexpected and avoidable expenses. On top of these issues, the inconvenient positioning of the handle further compounded my frustrations. Placed at the front, the handle inadvertently becomes the point of contact with surfaces when the cassette is removed. Consequently, it easily sustains scratches and damage, diminishing the overall quality of the product.
