Planned obsolescence – Problem with replacement prices
I want to share my experience with Gastroback.de, and it's safe to say that it's been less than ideal. I purchased a toaster from them in January 2019, which unfortunately started malfunctioning just beyond the 2-year warranty period. I reached out to Gastroback and was asked to return the toaster for repair, providing photos of the issue. After waiting for 5 weeks, I was informed that the item couldn't be repaired due to the unavailability of a replacement unit. It was disappointing not to have been informed earlier about this, as it would have saved me the hassle and additional carbon footprint from shipping it unnecessarily. What's more concerning is the fact that a 2+ year old item couldn't be repaired, hinting at planned obsolescence and a lack of environmental responsibility from the company. Instead of offering a viable solution, I was asked to purchase a newer model at a price higher than what was listed on their website at the time. This felt like a disingenuous practice that further added to my disappointment. In conclusion, I am deeply unsatisfied with the experience and won't be engaging with this company in the future. I would advise others to do the same, especially if they value transparency, sustainability, and ethical business practices. P
