If you don’t need to interact with this bank, just…don’t.

Truly one of the WORST experiences that my family and I have ever had trying to open a stupid NRI account. We haven't been back to this godforsaken country for decades because of asinine systems like these . HDFC Bank was a prime example of this idiocy. Three absolutely incompetent individuals including Mohan Reddy, Jigar Akhade, and their equally stupid supervisor, Nitin Mulam. They don't read their emails. They don't send coherent responses over emails. They don't have a functional or operational chat. Basically, think of a group of toddlers pretending that they're running a bank and just copy-and-pasting information. They ask for attachments that they already have. They don't take the time to understand your question, just figure out what's the best set of paragraphs to copy-paste into a response to you. There is also little to no logic in the account opening process. Somehow the people interacting with you and the people who process your documentation at "headquarters" in Mumbai seem to be on two different planets. One cannot see/have/access the information from the other. Really? In this day and age? When you're sending your alleged best and brightest to the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Singapore, etc. for their technical chops? Also, we're not usual complainer. In comparison, our family opened an NRI account at Equitas Small Finance Bank and this was one of the smoothest and most comfortable transactions ever. Everything was done virtually and seamlessly. And they're a bank with 1/100th the resources of a behemoth like HDFC. So there's no excuse. Unless you HAVE to open an account with HDFC , just...don't. Find another bank that actually knows what they're doing and have seamless online interfacing that belongs in the 21st century.
