Today, as I unwrapped what was meant to be a replacement ignitor, my hopes were dashed once again. I held in my hands an ignitor meant for a Louisiana grill, not my beloved Pit Boss. In my frustration, I reached out to the customer service representative, hoping for a ray of light in this storm of missteps. Alas, all I received was a half-hearted "I understand your frustration." As I pondered the future beyond the warranty, I couldn't shake off the worry of what lay ahead. If the present struggles are any indication, the post-warranty era seems daunting. The charm of the Pit Boss 1600 Pro PS1 is overshadowed by the recurring woes of incorrect parts and lackluster customer service. As I navigate through this ordeal, I can't help but feel a pang of disappointment. The promise of quality and reliability seems distant, and the fear of looming expenses post-warranty looms large. As an avid BBQ enthusiast, I was thrilled to purchase the Pit Boss PB820 Competition Series Smoker from pitboss-grills.com in August 2022. Excitedly, I seasoned the smoker before its first use and diligently maintained it by covering and cleaning it after every cooking session. However, my enthusiasm turned to disappointment when I noticed rust developing on the outside of the barrel where the lid meets the metal, after just five cooks. Worried and disheartened, I reached out to Pit Boss, only to be informed that the rust was considered cosmetic and not covered under warranty. Despite my efforts to address the issue by sanding down the affected areas and applying high-heat Rustoleum paint, the rust stubbornly resurfaced every few months. It became evident that there was a recurring metal oxidation problem between the lid and barrel, leading to further frustration. Following multiple attempts to rectify the rust issue, including contacting Pit Boss once more on 10/19/23, I was met with the same response of the rust not being covered by warranty. While a $50 gift certificate was offered as a token of acknowledgment, my desire for a lasting and high-quality smoker experience remained unfulfilled. In light of my disappointing experience with the PB820, I have decided to invest in a Traeger smoker based on glowing recommendations from friends with older units that have not encountered similar rusting problems. Regrettably, this will mark the end of my journey with Pit Boss smokers. Despite the setbacks faced with the PB820 Competition Series Smoker, I must acknowledge the initial excitement and hope it brought to my grilling adventures. It is my sincere hope that Pit Boss takes note of these issues and works towards enhancing the durability and longevity of their products for the benefit of their loyal customers.
